Maureen Spencer, RN - Founder and Executive Director
Finding Inner Peace Yoga School, founded by Maureen Spencer, M.Ed., R.N., has been certifying yoga teachers since 1996. This business focuses on certificate programs in yoga, sound healing, and Reiki energy healing. In 2002, the Yoga School received approval from the National Yoga Alliance as a Registered Yoga School.
Maureen Spencer, the founder, has an impressive background. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and a Master’s of Education in Health Promotion from Bridgewater State College. Maureen’s passion for yoga began during her teenage years when she read an article about its potential for enhancing mind control. At just 17 years old, she started teaching yoga to her nursing school classmates. Her journey continued as she received her first yoga teacher certification from the Ashram in Belmont, MA in 1978. Maureen furthered her studies as a yoga therapist with Integrative Yoga Therapy and completed advanced teacher training. She also participated in various programs, including those with the American Yoga College, International Yoga Studies, and Yoga Journal Conference Teacher Intensives. Her training extended to areas such as Yogakids Phase I Facilitator, Color Me Yoga Children’s Teacher Certification, Meridian Hatha Yoga Certification, and Prenatal Yoga Teacher Certification. Maureen even authored a chapter titled “How Yoga Saved My Life” in the book “Yoga In America”, recounting her early experiences with yoga in Boston and is currently working on a book dedicated to the practice.
In October 1997, a group of yoga teachers representing various schools and styles convened to draft standards for teacher certification under the National Yoga Alliance. Maureen actively participated in this project and promptly incorporated the drafted yoga standards into her yoga teacher certification course in 1998. Her commitment to maintaining high standards for yoga education is evident. Additionally, in 2000, Maureen achieved recognition as an Advanced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT500) with the National Yoga Alliance.
